JCDC Awarded $30,000 State Grant to Develop New Business Park in Pine Creek Township

HARRISBURG -- The Jefferson County Development Council (JCDC) has been awarded a $30,000 state grant to perform a preliminary site analysis for the development of a business park in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County, according to Sen. Joe Scarnati (R-25).

The Business in Our Sites (BOS) grant was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority today.

Scarnati said the 140-acre Brownfield site is located at Exit 81 off of Interstate 80 and State Route 28. It is designated as part of Jefferson County’s comprehensive plan. A 2009 study by Delta Development identified the site as the number one developable site in the county.

Scarnati said the site was extensively strip-mined in the 1980s and has been vacant for many years. The current owner will work with JCDC to create a new enterprise park primarily focused on energy-related businesses involved in manufacturing and related services.  When completed, the project is expected to create approximately 750 jobs.

"This is a great example of using a Brownfield site for business growth and expansion," Scarnati said. "I’m pleased that we are making this investment in Jefferson County and providing new opportunities for job growth."
