Scarnati Disappointed With Budget DiscussionsWARREN—State Senator Joe Scarnati of the 25th District is extremely dismayed with the budget discussions on-going in Harrisburg at this time. With only a few days left before the Constitutional deadline to complete the 2006-2007 final budget, seemingly it appears as if the citizens of the Commonwealth are going to be the losers. "The Administration and certain members of the General Assembly have come to terms on an approximate 7% increase in spending for the upcoming budget," Scarnati stated. "This is outrageous, as the people of Pennsylvania deserve a more conservative, more responsible, and quite frankly, a more sensible budget dialogue than what is occurring at the present time." "I am upset with the Governor and some of my colleagues, who obviously do not recognize the mistrust and anger that the voters of the Commonwealth have towards state government," Scarnati added. "It is time we face the challenges of this economy, and do as the general public does by living within its means." Scarnati mentioned that with a 7% percent increase in spending, which equates to over $1.5 billion, there is absolutely no way he can support this year's final budget. "As I travel throughout my district, the number one issue that comes to the forefront is property tax reform," Scarnati said. "If the Governor and others would like to do more than give lip service to the residents of Pennsylvania, then let us control spending and use the $1.5 billion to help working families and homeowners with their property taxes." "Individuals, families, and businesses alike are struggling with rising heating costs, insurance premiums, as well as gasoline prices," Scarnati added. "Therefore, to add an unreasonable increase in state spending is simply senseless and not in the best interest of the people we represent." Scarnati concluded by stating that it is his belief that the General Assembly should hold the Governor accountable for his plan of outlandish spending. "Understanding that Pennsylvania needs to get back to putting more money in the pockets of our citizens and recognizing the detrimental impact this budget will have on working families and businesses is reason enough to vote NO on this budget," Scarnati concluded. "I sincerely hope that all parties involved will listen to their constituents and pass a more practical budget."
