Scarnati Optimistic About Property Tax Reform

Warren-Senator Joe Scarnati of the 25th District announced today that legislative negotiators are getting closer to a proposal designed to help property owners.  A House-Senate conference committee says it hopes to have a new compromise bill on property tax reform worked out as early as next week.

"This could be the most significant property tax reduction in over three decades," Scarnati stated.  "Certainly, it is long overdue, and notwithstanding some minor stumbling blocks that still remain, I am pleased that considerable progress has been made in recent days."

In addition to spending controls being the cornerstone to this tax reform plan, proposals will also include more than doubling the size of the property tax rent rebate program.  "As I have said before, we must help the homeowner; we must help our senior citizens on fixed incomes and in general, get the onus of paying for public education off the backs of our property owners," Scarnati concluded.
