(HARRISBURG) – “Today Judge Baylson approved my request to suspend his order requiring the personal payment of legal fees associated with the League of Women Voters case, pending the appeal that has been filed in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
“The League of Women Voters chose to file a lawsuit in which I was a named defendant in my official capacity as Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore. It is important to recognize that the individuals who filed the suit never requested personal liability in the case. Judge Baylson found no bad faith and cited no relevant case law, which makes the assessment of personal liability even more confounding.
“This case has substantive ramifications and should be given full consideration by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. It is vital to underscore the enormous impact Judge Baylson’s ruling would have upon public elected officials making future legal decisions. If his decision is not overturned, all elected officials will be severely hampered when acting in their official capacity.”
