(HARRISBURG) – Two McKean County rail companies will soon receive $2.1 million in state grants to help expand local operations and create and retain jobs, according to State Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25).
American Refining Group, Inc. will receive a $1.6 million grant to construct 50 feet of track, rehabilitate 1,400 feet of track, one turnout and two crossings, and modify six existing loading tracks.
Western New York PA Railroad Company LLC is being awarded $500,000 to install 7,500 crossties, reconstruct two crossings, and complete track surfacing.
“The railroad industry is not only a big part of our transportation infrastructure, but also a critical component of our state and local economies, particularly in rural Pennsylvania,” Scarnati said. “I am extremely pleased that these grants will help strengthen our local infrastructure and provide jobs for hard-working community residents.”
Scarnati explained that both grants are being awarded as part of the Rail Transportation Assistance Program, which is funded through the state’s capital budget. Through the latest round of awards a total of 15 projects across the state will receive $36 million in grants.
